It seems to me that very few of us truly understand the pain associated with grief. As much as we want to believe that we are equipped to handle death when it happens, we really are not. Most of us underestimate the intensity of the grief emotions and only when we go to the funeral home and see the body of a once living person are we shocked how deep these raw emotions go. There are many people who even refuse to attend a funeral because they do not want to be 'sad'. This is what I found out when our daughter died. There were some people who could not get themselves to attend her funeral because they didn't think they could handle it.

Yet, funerals play a very important part of life and it plays a important role in the development of our children. Children are much more resilient than we give them credit because the pain they initially feel will in the end make them stronger. As Christian's we know that this home is temporary and that one day we will all be united in heaven because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross. He alone overcame death and made a place for us with him when that day comes and we take our last breath.
